Academic Principles & Scheme
The Graduate School of Science and Engineering consists of one department and eight special courses. This research system allows students to study not only their area of specialty, but also to learn cutting-edge research from other fields of study and research that cuts across fields. In order to respond to the various complex and diverse modern issues of science and technology, such as environmental energy issues, we have prepared a flexible education and research system that is not bound by previous research areas.
Academic Excellence
Fundamental Science Course

Focusing on mathematical science, theoretical physics, and astrophysics, the course extends to new fields such as complex systems. The specialty studies cultivate students' ability to build models and solve problems for a range of issues.

Chemistry Course

The course consists of three fields: physical chemistry, organic chemistry, and inorganic analytic chemistry. Focusing on a wide range of molecular systems that include individual molecules and tissues showing organic functions and many other functions, the course bases its studies on the primary viewpoint of chemistry and broadens graduate students' knowledge of chemistry.

Material Science Course

Focusing on the creation of substances with new functions, the course provides comprehensive studies on material design, device manufacturing, and other applications. Based on material physics, solid-state chemistry, material science, thin-film engineering, electrical properties engineering, and other fields, the course nurtures individuals who can understand and study cutting-edge material science and have a comprehensive knowledge of areas that cut across fields of study.

Biological Science Course

The rapid progress in biological science is not only expanding new frontiers of science and technology, but is also greatly influencing human society. The aim of the Biological Science Course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge of molecular biology as a common basis to work in this wide field, as well as to develop the ability to plan and carry out their own research by partaking in ongoing research on the structure, function, and regulation of biological molecules. Taking advantage of their affiliation with the Biological Science Course in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, we also encourage students to take part in the technical advancements in this field so that they may contribute not only to existing areas such as medicinal products and foods, but also to the broadening of the frontiers of biological science.

Electrical Engineering and Electronics Course

This course accepts graduate students specializing in a broad range of fields, including circuit systems, information communication, and materials and solid states. To nurture students who aim to become engineers and researchers, this course focuses on education and study targeting energy fields, measurement/control, information/communication, electronic devices, materials/solid states, and related areas that support the foundation of modern society.

Mechanical Engineering Course

This course trains researchers who create instruments and systems with superior performance that contribute to the welfare and sustained development of humanity. Specifically, students base their studies on a broad range of viewpoints, such as energy, environment, safety, and ethics, while deepening their understanding of shapes, mechanisms, and the dynamic actions of materials. Combining hard factors such as machines with soft factors such as intelligence, the course enables students to acquire advanced skills in information processing, measurement, and analysis. Research guidance fosters the comprehensive skills of the graduate students, enabling them to establish and solve problems.

Intelligence and Information Course

Graduate students will decipher the intelligence and sensibility of people based on the viewpoint of information, while at the same time mastering technologies that are friendly to human beings. The educational/research aim of the Intelligence and Information Course also encompasses the cultivation of graduate students who are well-informed about the functions and roles of information in society and social systems, and who are able to contribute to society through their information technology skills and deep insight.

Management Technology Course

Focusing on product life cycles, production systems, supply chains, environmental management, business management, and other problematic areas that affect modern society, the Management Technology Course studies structuring and the operation of concepts, methodologies, and systems that are necessary for their management. These studies and research are carried out based on the viewpoints of information technology, OR/statistics, IE, and investment engineering. The course welcomes graduates from other departments and faculties in addition to those from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering.
