Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering

Students strive to develop systems that innovate "business administration" by merging an engineering perspective with knowledge of the social sciences.

The mission of the department is to cultivate human resources that contribute to society by cultivating industrial and systems engineers and developing advanced management technologies contributing to the quality of management and quality of life.

The research domain of the department is organizational management systems, e.g. business organizations, production management systems, quality management systems, managerial information systems. The research methods of the department cover system modeling of complex and interdependent real organizational management systems, mathematical structural and data analysis, and developing solutions or information systems to solve the real organizational problems.

The curriculum of the department is configured by the 4 core area, i.e. business management, IE/production management, statistics/quality control and OR/information. The curriculum is designed for the students to learn the knowledge about the business organization and management and technologies, and to obtain the mathematical business skills of modeling complex organization methods, analytical methods to understand and solve the real management problems, and planning and implementing methods of the advanced management systems. The department values the reinforcement of the personal competency and creativity of each student by providing the rich experiment classes, exercise classes and face to face seminar. Students will not only get the knowledge about the management technologies, but also develop their insight of grasping the essential problems in the real management system, gain intellect power of real problem solving. Foreign students will learn the key factors of Japanese advanced production and quality management systems.
