On October 23, 2024 (Wednesday), “Shogi Workshop” was held at “International Commons” on the 1st floor of Building 7, Aoyama Campus. Professional Shogi players: Mr. Yusuke Toyama, Ms. Hana Wada, and Ms. Mikoto Umezu, were invited as lecturers.

They introduced the origin and history of Shogi as the introduction, and the rules and the movement of each pieces were explained. Although there were various types of pieces and their movements, the participants seemed to learn the movements quickly by learning through mini games. After all those instructions, the students tried to play an actual game with the aid of the lecturers and the members of the Shogi Club at AGU. Many of them played Shogi for the first time, but they gradually got the hang of the game and played together enthusiastically.

Including international students and AGU students, about 20 students participated in the workshop, and it was a valuable experience for them to learn traditional Japanese culture through Shogi.
