In keeping with our school motto, 'The Salt of the Earth, The Light of the World,' based on Christianity, we provide educational opportunities and support for students so that they can cultivate a broader perspective within their communities and take initiative in helping others.
Aoyama Gakuin has as its aim education based upon the Christian faith and as its purpose the building up of individuals who live in sincerity before God, who seek for truth with humility, and who actively take responsibility for all people and for society in a spirit of love and service.
The origin of Aoyama Gakuin University dates back to 1874 when Dora E. Schoonmaker, the first single female missionary in Japan for the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, founded a girls’ school in Tokyo.
Aoyama Gakuin University has International Partnership & Collaboration agreements with over 180 partner universities from over 35 countries/regions.
