Aoyama Gakuin has as its aim education based upon the Christian faith and as its purpose the building up of persons who live in sincerity before God, who seek for truth with humility, and who actively take responsibility for all people and for society in a spirit of love and service.
The origin of Aoyama Gakuin University dates back to 1874 when Dora E. Schoonmaker, the first single female missionary in Japan for the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church, founded a girls’ school in Tokyo.
Aoyama Gakuin University has International Partnership & Collaboration agreements with over 170 partner universities from 40 countries/regions.
