"Japanese Tea Workshop" Held!

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, “Japanese Tea Workshop” was held at the International Commons on the first floor of Building 7, on the Aoyama Campus. About 30 students, including both international and AGU non-international students, participated in the workshop and learned about Japanese tea.
Mr. Brett Meyer, originally from New Jersey, USA, is now a Japanese tea instructor/ hand tea-rolling apprentice in Japan. He gave a lecture on the various types of Japanese tea and the manufacturing process as an instructor for the workshop. During the lecture, the students had the opportunity to taste a variety of teas, including green tea, Japanese black tea, and hojicha, and to compare the aroma from different tea leaves before they are soak into hot water. At the end of the lecture, Mr. Mayer brewed a pot of tea in front of the students, who enjoyed the freshly brewed tea and sweets.


Participants commented like them; “I discovered new aspects of Japanese tea through the workshop! “It was refreshing to try different types of tea that we do not drink often; I enjoyed the opportunity to compare different types of tea.” It was a valuable opportunity for them to rediscover the d of Japanese tea.
The workshop was conducted mainly in English and provided a wonderful opportunity for students to interact with each other while learning more about Japanese tea. Participants also received green tea powder as a souvenir The workshop provided a valuable learning and exchange experience.
