On September 1, 2023 Dr. Tshilidzi Marwala, the newly appointed Rector of United Nations University, Dr. Yamaguchi Shinobu, the Director of United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (Graduate of AGU College of Literature Department of English), and Mr. Michael Baldock, the Chief of Staff visited AGU to hold a meeting with president Sakamoto Hiroshi, and vice president Uchida Tatsuya (In Charge of Public Relations / International Affairs).

<Dr. Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of United Nations University>
Appointed the 7th Rector of United Nations University on March 1, 2023. Being the 1st African rector, Dr. Marwala specialize in Artificial Intelligence and received his PhD at Cambridge University (UK). Dr. Marwala had taken the post of vice president at University of Johannesburg in South Africa, and has worked as a visiting researcher and visiting professor in the United States, United Kingdom, China and South Africa. He has taken part in various global and national policy bodies and has worked with UN agencies such as UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO and WIPO.

<Dr. Yamaguchi Shinobu, Director of United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability>
Graduate of AGU College of Literature Department of English. Having taken the post of Assistant Programme Specialist, Education Sector at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris and Programme Specialist at UNESCO Beijing , Dr. Yamaguchi had served in development projects mainly in the Asian and African area. Dr. Yamaguchi had received her PhD for Economics and Education at Columbia University and taught at Tokyo Institute of Technology. She specialize in ICT (information and communication technology) for education, innovation and policy of education, and international development based on utilization of science and technology for world heritage conservation.

United Nations University was established in 1975, and its headquarters is located in front of the main gates of AGU, just across the Aoyama Street. It works as a global education/research institution that holds research labs and programs in 12 countries.
