Six students from the Department of Japanese Literature in the Faculty of Letters won prizes at the 15th All Japan Student and Junior Tanka Competition

The 15th Japan Students and Junior Tanka Tournament (sponsored by the Japan Poets Club, the Agency for Cultural Affairs, Mainichi Shimbun, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Board of Education). HAGI Kofune (4th year), TAGUCHI Hikaru (3rd year), Takumi ASAHARA (3rd year), MATSUMOTO Nozomi (3rd year), MITSUI Ran (3rd year), and USHIYAMA Hisahsi (3rd year) all residing in the HIOKI Shunji seminar of the Japanese Literature at the College of Literature, received awards in this tournament.
The Japan Student and Junior Tanka Tournament is held with the aim of nurturing junior tanka*. It is the largest competition in Japan with over 8,000 student entries every year. The HIOKI Seminar produces top prize winners every year At the HIOKI Seminar, we are producing top prize winners every year, including winners of the selection award .
In addition to this tournament , for many years, the HIOKI Seminar has produced winners in various other tanka contests.
