Emeritus Professor Koichi Hayashi from the Department of Mechanical Engineering received the A.K. Oppenheim Prize for his "brilliant contribution to the basic understanding on the detonation structure with multi-dimensional numerical analysis" at the 26th International Colloquium on the Dynamics of Explosions and Reactive Systems held in Boston, MA, US, between July 30-August 4, 2017.
The biannual conference started in 1967 by scientists specializing in explosions and combustion. Emeritus Professor Hayashi is the 12th scientist and the 2nd Japanese scientist to receive the A.K. Oppenheim award.
The award ceremony was held on August 3rd at a banquet hosted at the prestigious Harvard Club of Boston, a membership- only club founded in 1908. Professor Hayashi received pottery and glass made commemorative shield with the testimonial.
