AGU Athletes train together with Ivy League Athletes

AGU Ekiden runners had a joint training camp with fellow athletes from Ivy league Schools. The Ivy league team, consisted of eight students from Brown University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton University and Yale University, participated in the Izumo Ekiden race in Japan on October 9 and 10, 2017.

On the third day of the camp a lecture was held by the head coaches from both teams. Coach Jack Fultz from the Ivy League team talked about the ideal mentality for a long distance runner based on his experience in winning the Boston Marathon in 1976. A Q&A session which followed got so lively with both teams exchanging views on the quality and quantity of training that it went far beyond the scheduled time.

The morning discussion broke the ice between American and Japanese teams and they trained together in the afternoon at the athletic ground in Sagamihara Campus in a friendly atmosphere.
