Aoyama Gakuin University reinvented its university book shop as the AGU Book Café in September 2017.

The stylish and spacious book shop with a café is triple the size of the original shop and is now home to a selection of 25,000 titles with a range of topics including academic course material, non-fiction, literary fiction as well as magazines both in Japanese and English.

The café area, Nana Café, offers a cup of fair trade coffee at a surprisingly low price of 150 yen.
Everyone’s favorite is the AGU soft cream, a.k.a. “Aogaku Soft,” which is available for 200 yen and is known for its wide variety of flavors including matcha, melon, royal milk tea, soda, and pumpkin among others. The popular ice cream disappeared from AGU’s school cafeterias in the spring of 2017 for administrative reasons, but returns with the launch of the book café.

There are many books in English in a variety of genres ranging from business, computers to literary fiction which are available to browse in the café for free.

If you need a break from work or from walking around in Omotesando, you can come and relax. Browse through a book over Yuzu (citrus) tea, 200 yen, for some quality time in the heart of Tokyo.

Opening hours

Café: 10:00-17:00 (Mon to Fri)

Bookshop: 9:00 – 18:30 (Mon to Fri), 9:00-17:00 (Sat)

The bookshop also sells stationary and other AGU goods. The café offers sandwiches and other sweets too.
