AGU hosts a symposium on Nationalism and Reconciliation

AGU hosted an IAMSCU Research University Symposium on Nationalism and Reconciliation on March 10, 2018. The event kicked off with a lecture by Dr. Thomas Berger from Boston University titled “Monumental Blunders and Inevitable Apologies: Historical Controversies and Reconciliation in a Time of Nationalist Passions.” By making a unique and ambitious comparison of a current battle over Confederate monuments in the U.S. and Comfort Women dispute between Japan and South Korea, Dr. Berger stressed the importance of understanding a “history problem” from such multi-dimensional perspectives as historical, moral, cultural-narrative and political dimensions.
IAMSCU Research University Symposium series started in 2015 as a cooperation between AGU and the International Association of Methodist Schools Colleges and Universities (IAMSCU).
