Educational and research objectives

Human resource development objectives

In order to ensure the survival and further development of the human world, it is necessary to conserve a rich natural environment and create a peaceful and vibrant social environment. To realize these ideals, innovation and development of "science and technology" based on physical science and engineering are essential. Talent capable of responding to such societal demands must not only possess deep insight and high execution capabilities built on solid fundamental abilities in related specialized fields, but also a broad, bird's-eye view of human society, including surrounding academic fields, and a humble attitude toward the natural environment.
Graduate School of Science and Engineering (hereinafter referred to as "this Graduate School") aims to cultivate character based on the Christian spirit of our university's educational foundation, to foster in-depth academic knowledge and research ability through specialized academic instruction and training, and to educate individuals who will be solid members of society, who can demonstrate international leadership, and who can contribute to the development and creation of culture as "salt of the earth and light of the world."
In the Master's Program, based on the broad liberal arts and specialized liberal arts foundation for character development in undergraduate education, students will not only improve their basic and applied skills in their major field, but also develop profound academic knowledge and a sincere attitude and ability toward research in their research field. In the Doctoral Program, students will build on the educational achievements of the Master's Program by adding new knowledge to the conventional academic standard through original research, contributing to the development and creation of culture, and cultivating the ability to lead future research in their specialized field.

Educational goals such as the abilities students should acquire

In the Master's Program, by arranging practical English education subjects in a well-balanced manner in addition to high-quality specialized subjects and specialized subjects that broaden students' perspectives on society, students are trained not only to acquire deep knowledge and applied skills in their specialized fields, but also to develop the language skills to present and discuss research in international forums, a broad perspective on society and the environment, and judgment based on high ethical standards. In addition, the program aims to equip students with problem-solving and problem-finding skills through research guidance on their master's thesis.
In the doctoral program, students are expected to plan and carry out their own research independently under the guidance of their supervisor, and to be good role models for students conducting master's and graduation research as leaders in the laboratory. In addition, students are expected to publish and present their own research results, and through external activities, students are expected to acquire the qualities necessary to grow into independent researchers. The program aims to train researchers who can pioneer cutting-edge science and technology at domestic and overseas universities, graduate schools, and research institutes.

Systematic educational course

The talent that will lead the future development of science and technology must possess both deep specialist knowledge in a given field and knowledge in other specialized fields, be able to carry out research from a broad perspective, and be able to demonstrate the ability to apply knowledge. In order to cultivate talent with these characteristics, our graduate school has removed the traditional barriers between academic fields and has structured its programs around one major and eight specialized courses. In terms of course subjects, we have also included common subjects across all majors, such as English for Science and Technology, Ethics in Science and Technology, Environment, and Welfare, which are useful for broadening one's horizons and developing one's character. This structure of one major and eight specialized courses allows

  • 01. You can enter any course that interests you, regardless of the department you graduated from at university.
  • 02. Students can take a balanced mix of general subjects for the Science and Engineering major, specialized course subjects, and other course subjects.
  • 03. Cutting-edge research can be carried out through a collaborative system that transcends the boundaries of traditional academic fields.
  • 04. Interdisciplinary and new academic fields can be the subject of research.

It has the following characteristics:

Regarding the development of an educational and research environment

  • 01. In addition to taking advantage of the currently favorable facilities and equipment environment, we will work to build close ties with the faculty's affiliated institutions, the "Instrumental Analysis Center" and the "Advanced Technology Research and Development Center," as well as the university's affiliated institutions, the "General Research Institute" and the "Information Science Research Center."
  • 02. The entire faculty and graduate school will work towards having education and research projects selected by public agencies and public institutions, including the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
  • 03. As a system aimed at expanding research fields and diversifying graduate school education, we have established a collaborative graduate school system in which we conduct research and education in cooperation with independent administrative institutions, private research institutes, etc. based on agreements. We have also concluded a research cooperation agreement with Kitasato University School of Medicine. We will summarize the results of personnel and material exchanges with these other research institutions and consider further collaboration to establish a wide-ranging research and education system.
  • 04. In order to enhance the research activities of each faculty member, we will strengthen self-examination and evaluation activities, open research activities to the public, and further strengthen collaboration within faculties and departments.
