School of Global Studies and Collaboration is often said to be a faculty whose activities are difficult to understand. If I were to describe Aoyama Gakuin University simply, I would say it is a "cutting-edge faculty" that "addresses global challenges and creates a brighter future."

When we talk about solving global challenges, people often assume that our faculty trains individuals who will eventually join NPOs or international organizations. However, in reality, we also produce individuals who are in high demand by a wide range of companies. As a business consultant, I have advised global executives on business strategies. One term that executives always use is ESG. ESG stands for Environment, Social, and Governance, and it is common knowledge among global executives that these three perspectives are essential for a company's long-term growth. In Aoyama Gakuin University, experts covering ESG, along with experts in management and cutting-edge technology, collaborate to create a synergy not found in other universities, producing individuals who can play an active role in society at large.

Furthermore, Aoyama Gakuin University places a strong emphasis on practical skills for succeeding globally. First and foremost, English is essential as a highly effective communication tool for practical use. Aoyama Gakuin University provides intensive and practical English language training from the first year. We offer programs tailored to different levels to improve English proficiency, and students can acquire high-level English skills through thorough discussions and presentations in English led by native-speaking teachers. With motivation, anyone can acquire English that is effective globally. In addition, students can gain practical, real-world cross-cultural experience through a semester-long study abroad program in Southeast Asian countries, providing a practical setting for solving global challenges using their English skills.

Educational and research objectives

The educational and research objectives of School of Global Studies and Collaboration are to cultivate individuals who, based on Christian faith, possess a broad, global perspective, envision the future of society, contribute to the harmonious and sustainable development of society, and pioneer a new era.
Specifically, this means fostering global citizens who actively cooperate with people around the world, transcending national, regional, racial, gender, and cultural differences; who strive to overcome global challenges such as discrimination, poverty, conflict, and environmental destruction, who continuously learn; who possess high ethical standards and a spirit of social service; who embody the spirit of "salt of the earth and light of the world" wherever they are on Earth; and who can do work that is appreciated.
To achieve this objective, Aoyama Gakuin University has established a group of faculty-wide subjects that cultivate communication skills underpinned by language proficiency, develop competencies such as initiative, proactiveness, cooperation, and leadership, and foster intercultural empathy based on self-identity. At the same time, it has established a program that organically combines the study and experiential learning of a wide range of disciplines across the fields of economics, politics, culture, and society, as well as interaction with students from around the world, to enable students to acquire a multifaceted perspective and cultivate a mindset of coexistence.

For a better global society

In a dynamically changing global society, new connections are being created that transcend all borders. Global flows of people, freely evolving media and culture. While these connections are completely transforming the world and creating new possibilities, they are also bringing to light a variety of issues on a global scale. What is needed to understand environmental issues, conflicts, economic and information disparities, and other issues that are global but also affect our daily lives, explore their causes, and find solutions? School of Global Studies and Collaboration offers a combination of four fields of study: political science, economics and business administration, media and spatial information studies, and sociology. By learning interdisciplinaryly beyond the boundaries of specialized academic fields, students will acquire the ability to grasp the complex society in which we live from a variety of perspectives.
