The International Center handles the following scholarship programs for studying abroad. The information listed may be subject to change, so please check the student portal and application guidelines for details.

For students studying at partner universities and accredited universities

  • Aoyama Gakuin University Joint Industry-Academic Bandai Overseas Study Encouragement Scholarship - Taihei Engineering/AGU Joint Industry-Academic Scholarship -

    ContentsThis scholarship is aimed at students of our university who wish to study abroad. It is jointly run by our university and Taihei Engineering Co., Ltd. and aims to reduce the financial burden and encourage students to study abroad by providing scholarships as academic funds.

    Payment amount1) Scholarship to encourage studying abroad at partner universities: 500,000 yen
    2) Scholarship to encourage studying abroad at accredited schools: 500,000 to 1,000,000 yen depending on affiliation
    3) World-class University Study Abroad Scholarship: 500,000 yen in addition to 1), or 1,000,000 yen in addition to 2)
    ※For 1), 2), and 3), half the cost will be paid for semester study abroad.

    ContentsThis scholarship is part of Aoyama Gakuin School Corporation International Foundation program and aims to encourage students to study abroad and to develop talented individuals who can adapt to the current age of globalization.

  • Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Overseas Study Abroad Support System (Agreement Dispatch)

    *Depending on the academic year, there may be no allocation to our university and no applications may be accepted.
    ContentsBy providing scholarships to cover part of the expenses required for travel, the aim is to develop human resources who can play an active role in global society, as well as to contribute to the internationalization and strengthening of the international competitiveness of Japan's higher education institutions.

  • "Special Increased Loan Scholarship for Study Abroad" (lump sum) for students receiving the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Type 1 and Type 2 scholarships

    ContentsThis is a system where students who receive domestic loan scholarships (Type 1 and Type 2 scholarships) can receive a lump sum "special increased loan scholarship for studying abroad" in addition to their domestic loan scholarship when they go on short-term study abroad (3 months or more) to a university or graduate school overseas. The application period for domestic loan scholarships (enrolled students) is around April in the first semester and around October in the second semester, and there are selection criteria such as household finances and grades.

    Payment amountYou can choose from 100,000 yen, 200,000 yen, 300,000 yen, 400,000 yen, and 500,000 yen.
    Application conditions: All of ① to ③ must be met.① Students currently enrolled in a domestic university or graduate school who are receiving a loan (Type 1 or Type 2 scholarship)
    *Payment must be in progress by the start date of your study abroad (you are not eligible to apply if you are on leave or suspended).
    ② Those who are studying abroad at a university overseas for three months or more and who meet one of the following criteria:
    A. Study abroad based on agreements regarding student exchanges with schools in Japan (study abroad, exchange study)
    A. Study abroad where credits earned through studying abroad are recognized as credits at the school you are currently enrolled in (certified study abroad)
    C. Study abroad for research purposes by a student enrolled in a graduate school (research study abroad) that is recognized as meaningful by the principal of the school in Japan where the student is enrolled.
    3) Students from households who applied for and were not granted a "national education loan" from the Japan Finance Corporation after screening.

For those who wish to study at a graduate school abroad

  • Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Overseas Study Support Program (Overseas Graduate School Degree Acquisition Type) (No repayment required)

    ContentsThe purpose of this program is to provide government-sponsored financial support for the study and research expenses of Japanese students studying at universities in various countries (regions) in order to further expand exchanges between students, promote mutual understanding and friendship with other countries, foster excellent global human resources who can play an active role in international leadership positions, and contribute to strengthening Japan's international competitiveness.

  • Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Category 1 Scholarship (for overseas graduate school degree acquisition) (repayment required)

    ContentsThis is a loan scholarship for those who have been accepted into the "Study Abroad Support System (Graduate School Degree Acquisition Type)" and who still require financial support even after receiving the scholarship. From the 2025 academic year onwards, the reservation acceptance has been discontinued and has been consolidated into "Enrollment Acceptance" (individual application without going through the school).

    Payment amountThe monthly loan amount you can choose from varies depending on the course you are enrolled in. Choose the amount you want from two monthly loan amounts.
    Master's degree equivalent: 50,000 yen, 88,000 yen
    Doctoral course equivalent: 80,000 yen, 122,000 yen
    Application EligibilityYou must not be receiving a domestic Type 1 scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) during the application period (or the start date of your study abroad).
    Application periodAfter acceptance into the "Study Abroad Support Program (Graduate School Degree Acquisition Type)" is decided, up to three months before the end of the support period.

  • Public-Private Partnership Overseas Study Support Program - Tobitate! Study Abroad JAPAN Japan Representative Program -

    ContentsBy supporting students in planning their own study abroad, which includes practical activities (internships, fieldwork, volunteer work, etc.) based on clear objectives and ambitious goals that they have set for themselves, the program aims to help students develop the skills to be active globally and use their experiences to foster a new culture of studying abroad.

    Payment amountMonthly scholarship: 60,000 yen, 120,000 yen, or 160,000 yen (depending on study area and household finances)
    Study abroad preparation fee: 150,000 or 250,000 yen (depending on study area)
    Tuition: 300,000 yen
    *Tuition support is available for classes at universities, graduate schools, and junior colleges where students can obtain a degree, and for classes aimed at learning a specialized field in line with their study abroad plans (support is not available for language tuition only).

    ② Plan to start studying abroad between early August and March 31 of the following year [Tobitate Recruitment: odd-numbered periods]

    *For both ① and ②, the study abroad period must be between 28 days and one year (a plan of three months or more is recommended), the plan must include practical activities in line with the purpose of the study abroad, and the location of the study abroad institution must not be in an area that falls under "Level 2: Avoid non-essential travel" or higher on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' "Overseas Safety Website." There are many other conditions. Please check the Tobitate application guidelines for details.

    Selection ProcessAfter the university submits its application for Tobitate after undergoing an internal document screening, Tobitate will then conduct a document screening and interview.
