Public Law Major
Public Law Major
Department of Public Law covers not only traditional public law subjects such as constitutional law, administrative law, criminal law, and criminal procedure law, but also legal philosophy and political science, as well as international subjects such as international law and international criminal law, and subjects with high practical demands such as tax law and social security law.
The following are some of the features of this major: (1) It is designed primarily as a program for those aiming to become researchers, but is also open to those who want to acquire legal expertise and play an active role in society in the future. (2) Students can receive instruction from professors who are conducting research on a wide variety of international themes, primarily in small seminars, and depending on the theme, in the form of multiple professors.
In this department, students who aim to become researchers can basically select and focus on courses related to their chosen research topic, with the aim of writing a master's thesis. Students who aim to play an active role in the business world can take courses in Department of Business Law of the Graduate Graduate School of Law (including courses from other graduate schools) according to their purpose, in addition to taking courses necessary for writing a master's thesis on their research topic.
Because this department is primarily focused on training traditional researchers, we conduct entrance examinations to check that applicants have the basic academic ability required for research in this department. However, in recent years, other selection methods have been prepared, and we are opening the way to admission to applicants who wish to deepen their knowledge of specialized legal fields and acquire more highly specialized legal knowledge and skills in order to play an active role in various sectors of society.
