Educational and research objectives and three policies
Educational and research objectives and three policies
We would like to introduce the educational and research objectives and three policies of Intelligence and Information Course Graduate School of Science and Engineering Aoyama Gakuin University Graduate School.
Educational and research objectives
With a focus on the keywords of intelligent information, human interface, and networks, students study and research a wide range of subjects from engineering to business. There are specialized frontier programs for science majors to improve their specialized knowledge, such as leading the world in the much-talked-about field of robotics, and composite frontier programs for liberal arts majors, such as those that aim to develop new businesses using the latest network technology.
Three Policies for the Master's Program
-
Diploma Policy (Policy for Completion Certification and Awarding of Degrees)
The Department of Intelligence and Informatics awards a Master's of Engineering or Master's of Science to students in the Specialized Frontier Program who meet the following requirements, and a Master's of Arts to students in the Integrated Frontier Program.
■ Knowledge and skills
- Possess the specialist knowledge and research capabilities to independently conduct research in any of the following fields: basic knowledge of intelligence, knowledge, and information technology in general, including programming technology, graphic and image processing technology, advanced content development skills including language processing, sensor technology required for network connections, API development technology, web analysis technology, etc.
・Acquire the English skills necessary to present research abroad.
- In the Specialized Frontier Program, students have in-depth knowledge of advanced research and applications, while in the Complex Frontier Program, students have broad-ranging specialized knowledge that enables them to evaluate the results of science and technology from a social activity perspective and to evaluate the needs for science and technology in socio-economic activities.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
Based on specialized knowledge, students will acquire the ability to judge and gain insight into security events and incidents, the ability to process non-verbal information and vast information spaces, and programming techniques for visualization, and will possess the ability to think, make judgments, and express themselves to become engineers and researchers with a broad perspective who can contribute to the development of cutting-edge science and technology.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
In addition to the desire to be active globally as members of society, they have acquired the high ethical standards worthy of a master's degree and the humanity to contribute to the development of science and technology. -
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
The educational programs will be organized into a "Specialized Frontier Program" and a "Complex Frontier Program."
"Specialized Frontier Program"
The curriculum will include four areas: software technology, mechatronics technology, human factors technology, and network technology, as well as science, technology, and society, the environment, welfare, and risk-based safety issues.
Specifically, students will learn special subjects related to fundamental and applied engineering problems, such as Information Security, Information Fundamentals, Discovery Science, Design Information Engineering, Information Dissemination Skills, Nonlinear Control, Robotics, Biomechanics, Embodied Intelligence, World Wide Web, Software Science, Artificial Intelligence, Intelligent Software Science, Wearable Media, Smart Media, Practical CAE Applications, Image Processing, and Multimedia Engineering. In addition, students will learn environmental, safety, and ethical perspectives, such as Science, Technology, and Society, Welfare Engineering, Environmental Science, Risk-Based Safety Engineering, Problem-Solving Exercises, Research and Development, Intellectual Property, and Science and Technology Ethics. Through these, students will gain the specialized knowledge necessary to conduct research independently. In addition, scientific and technical English is compulsory, and students will acquire the English skills to present their research abroad.
Through comprehensive research guidance, students will acquire the ability to independently conduct research based on their thinking, judgment, and insight, which will be cultivated through gathering information on their specialized fields, formulating research plans, developing test equipment and analysis software, and carrying out research using these. Students will also acquire the ability to express themselves through numerous opportunities to present their research both at the university and abroad.
Through research activities, students will develop the interest and attitude necessary for society when they enter the world, in areas outside their field of expertise, such as the environment, safety, and ethics, so that they can carry out their research independently. By providing internship opportunities both in Japan and overseas, students will be able to experience a global environment and develop the desire to play an active role on a global stage as members of society.
"Complex Frontier Program"
Students will study a wide range of specialized fields across multiple courses and develop broad-based specialist knowledge in the research and analysis of science and technology, including the relationship between society, culture, and science and technology. -
Admission Policy
■ Knowledge and skills
- In the Specialized Frontier Program, students will be able to understand the content of foreign languages, mathematics, specialized subjects, etc. necessary to study a specialized field, have knowledge equivalent to a university graduate, and understand the basics of information technology-related fields.
- The Complex Frontier Program requires basic academic ability to acquire a wide range of specialized knowledge and foreign language knowledge equivalent to a university graduate.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
At a level equivalent to university graduation, students are able to consider things from multiple perspectives and logically, and express and communicate their own thoughts in an easily understandable manner.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Students who understand the characteristics of the course, have an interest in information technology, and are motivated and interested in using their specialized knowledge and skills to contribute to society.
Three Policies for the Doctoral Program
-
Diploma Policy (Policy for Completion Certification and Awarding of Degrees)
The Department of Intelligent Information Science will award a Doctor of Engineering or Doctor of Science to students who meet the following requirements.
■ Knowledge and skills
- Possess the specialized knowledge and research capabilities to combine a wide range of specialized knowledge with original research achievements.
- Have acquired the English skills to present research abroad and exchange information.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
- Possess the ability to think, make judgments, and express oneself, and be recognized as an engineer or researcher with a broad perspective who can combine advanced specialized knowledge with the results of their own research and contribute to the development of cutting-edge science and technology.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
- In addition to the desire to play an active role globally as a member of society, students have acquired the personality and high ethical standards worthy of a doctoral degree, as well as the humanity that can contribute to the development of science and technology. -
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
The curriculum is designed to provide students with the ability to develop a wealth of academic knowledge that will serve as the foundation for integrating a wide range of specialized knowledge with their own original research achievements, produce research achievements worthy of a doctoral degree, and provide research guidance that will equip them with the ability to engage in academic discussion.
In the doctoral dissertation writing guidance, students will select cutting-edge research themes and methodologies in the field of information technology, produce original research results, and improve their English skills by presenting their research abroad.
In order to cultivate the ability to become independent engineers and researchers who can contribute to the development of cutting-edge science and technology in the future, we provide a research environment where students can actively participate in academic activities both at home and abroad to collect information on the latest science and technology, and social activities aimed at understanding the needs of the industrial world, thereby improving their thinking and judgment. We also provide opportunities for students to conduct research together with master's and undergraduate students, improving their cooperation, expressiveness, and leadership skills.
In order to enable students to carry out original research, we foster through research activities an interest and attitude that will be necessary when they enter society in issues such as the environment, safety, and ethics, outside of their specialization. By providing internship opportunities both in Japan and overseas, we enable students to experience a global environment, conduct research at an international level, and foster a desire to play an active role on a global scale as members of society. -
