Human resource development for e-learning professionals
Modern Educational Needs Support Program
Developing and disseminating world-class specialist training programs

*This initiative was carried out from 2005 to 2007 with support from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
*This training program is currently being rolled out university-wide as an "e-Learning Professional Certification Program" by the "e-Learning Human Resource Development Education and Research Project (eLPCO)" at the Aoyama Gakuin University University Social Collaboration Organization Human Innovation Research Center (HiRC).

Program Overview

This initiative aims to develop a training program that integrates knowledge from various fields in an interdisciplinary and systematic way in order to develop e-learning specialists, and to implement it as a regular educational course in all undergraduate and graduate schools. Today, higher education faces serious problems such as a decline in students' motivation to learn, immaturity in teacher lesson design and teaching methods, and a lack of strict credit recognition. As a solution to these problems, it is expected that there will be a shift from "classes where teachers teach" to "classes where students learn independently," and the use of e-learning is attracting attention as a means to achieve this.

However, when introducing e-learning, the reality is that in many cases no significant educational benefits are seen because there is a lack of adequate support for creating lesson scenarios and teaching materials that are in line with educational goals, for individual learners, and for technical support for class management.

In order to overcome this situation, it is essential to develop specialized human resources who can create and operate e-learning classes, and this initiative aims to solve this problem.

Program implementation report

This initiative has the following three objectives:

  • 01.Development of training programs (curriculum, e-learning subjects) that reflect the characteristics of Japanese higher education and correspond to the skill requirements of e-learning professionals.
  • 02. Implement the training program as a regular curriculum for undergraduate and graduate education, and develop e-learning specialists in an interdisciplinary and systematic way.
  • 03. Spreading the training program to other universities and working adults.

Based on these survey results and the practice of e-learning at our university, this initiative aims to train e-learning specialists in the five occupations listed below. Furthermore, the scope of activities of these personnel will cover the entire range of e-learning development and operation. Therefore, the e-learning specialists to be trained in this initiative will cover all the human resources necessary to resolve the issues of e-learning in higher education.
