Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
Department of International Communication has developed an educational curriculum to ensure that students have acquired the following academic abilities by the time they complete the course.
Department of International Communication aims to equip students with the ability to theoretically and empirically approach the elucidation of various phenomena in the international community from the three perspectives of "language," "culture (regional culture and comparative culture)," and "communication," and provides an educational program in which students can learn the main theories and research methods in these three areas.
The program consists of basic subjects (Group A) that cover the main areas of international communication common to the three perspectives, and specialized subjects (Group B) that specialize in themes in each area. In addition, by offering subjects from other graduate schools and Department of International Politics and Department of International Economics (Group C), it is possible to consider phenomena while organically integrating macro, mezzo, and micro perspectives. In addition, specialized seminar subjects are also offered to develop the ability to write academic papers and to conduct specialized research on specific themes. By taking the required subjects, students can obtain the qualification of a professional social researcher certified by the Japan Association for Social Research upon completion of the program.
For "language," we offer basic and specialized subjects to learn about the functions and structure of language and how to use it. For "culture," which is closely related to language, we offer basic and specialized subjects to learn about various regional and comparative cultural studies in Europe, Asia, America, and other regions. Furthermore, for "communication," we offer subjects to learn theories in areas such as international communication, intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, and multicultural coexistence, as well as subjects to systematically learn the research methods required to conduct empirical research.
In specialized subjects, many foreign language documents are used as teaching materials and as prior research when writing papers, and students develop the language skills necessary to acquire specialized knowledge in international communication. -
