Educational and research objectives and three policies
We would like to introduce the educational and research objectives and three policies of Aoyama Gakuin University Graduate School Graduate School of Law Department of Private Law.
Educational and research objectives
Department of Private Law provides instruction and education ranging from the foundations of domestic and international legal theory to the current state of affairs in each specialized field, with the aim of nurturing lawyers who can play a central role in society, such as researchers with outstanding research capabilities, civil servants who can contribute to the international community, corporate legal officers with responsive dispute resolution abilities, law school applicants who have acquired a broad base of legal theory, and international specialist lawyers who have studied comparative law.

Diploma Policy (Policy for Completion Certification and Awarding of Degrees)

- Have acquired basic concepts and theories related to the field of private law.
- Have systematically acquired the legal principles or comparative law research methods in each legal field related to private law.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
They have acquired the ability to thoroughly analyze, examine, and apply theories and practices related to the field of private law, focusing on their specialization.
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Through the study of specialized education, students will acquire the rational thinking skills required for law, and will be able to constantly identify problems and tackle them sincerely. -
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
With the aim of training researchers and nurturing members of society with advanced specialized knowledge, we offer "basic subjects" to learn basic research techniques such as information literacy and case law research, and "specialized subjects" to learn legal theories in each legal field and comparative law research methods. In addition, we offer "research guidance subjects" to cultivate the ability to analyze, examine, and apply theories and practices related to the field of private law through writing papers.

- Has undertaken pioneering research that will be innovative in the field of private law and has achieved the desired results.

Students will be able to thoroughly and deeply examine their own topic while taking into account basic concepts, fundamental principles, previous achievements, case law, and legislative examples from other countries in the field of private law, and be able to present the results of their research persuasively to the public.

Through the study of specialized education, students will acquire the rational thinking skills required for law, and in their research, they will be able to continue making efforts to deeply explore their own area of expertise, drawing on their extensive knowledge of related fields. -
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)

By arranging the subjects of "Comprehensive Research" and "Department of Private Law Research Guidance" in a well-balanced manner each year, students will be able to fully acquire basic concepts, basic theories, previous achievements, case law principles, etc. in the field of private law, and will also develop highly specialized knowledge, including a comparative legal perspective on legislative examples, academic theories, and case law principles in other countries.

In the doctoral program, students are required to report on their research results at an interim presentation every year from the second year onwards. In addition to receiving regular guidance from their supervisor, these presentations allow students to acquire the ability to express their research persuasively and the judgment to respond appropriately to questions and answers.

We encourage students to fully understand previous achievements, legal precedents, etc., and to adopt a constructive discussion attitude that contributes to their future development through careful research. We also encourage students to actively participate in research groups and academic conferences both inside and outside the university, to learn from the research of other researchers, and to proactively disseminate their own research results to the outside world and to improve themselves through friendly competition. -
