Educational and research objectives
In Department of Comparative Arts, through specialized and interdisciplinary comparative research and appreciation education in the three artistic fields of fine arts, students acquire specialized knowledge about the true meaning of art, as well as about history and philosophy. By establishing an artistic education and international perspective that constitutes part of the humanities "knowledge," the Department cultivates talented people who can contribute to the various challenges facing modern society, such as welfare, the environment, and information.
Diploma Policy (Policy for Graduation Certification and Degree Awarding)
■ Knowledge and skills
Students acquire specialized knowledge and appreciation methods in various fields of classical art (fine art, music, theater, and film), and master the basics of academic research methods.
■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
- Possess imagination, creativity, and rich sensitivity, and are able to think critically about various artistic fields.
・Able to clearly communicate appreciation and learning about classical arts fields (fine art, music, theater, film).
■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Through learning in the classical arts fields (art, music, theater, film), students will develop a deep inquisitiveness towards the arts, increase their interest in humanity, and have a desire to utilize it in society. They will also develop an attitude of discovering problems on their own and leading appropriate considerations and solutions to them.
Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)
■ Knowledge and skills
Through The Aoyama Standard Subjects, College of College of Literature General Subjects, and specialized educational subjects (basic exercises, original text readings, art appreciation education, interdisciplinary comparative research, etc.) in the department's classical arts fields (art, music, theater, film), students will acquire basic knowledge and appreciation methods of art and acquire skills in understanding art.

Through the department's lectures, seminars, and graduation thesis supervision, students can learn critical thinking and comparative research in various fields of classical art (fine art, music, theater, and film), and present the results of their studies in a graduation thesis or other publication.

By studying a wide range of classical arts (fine arts, music, theater, and film), students will gain a deeper understanding of the true meaning of art and its relationship to humans and society. Furthermore, they will acquire the ability to discover problems, think about them, and seek to solve them.
