Resolving the various issues facing human society by honing our "economic sense"
Economics may seem like a field that deals with financial matters, but university economics deals with all kinds of issues surrounding human society. This includes global issues such as the SDGs. The fundamental idea is how to increase the satisfaction of all players in economic activity (individuals, families, companies, governments, etc.). Economics can be said to be an academic field that pursues the optimal distribution of limited resources under given conditions in order to maximize this satisfaction. In order to derive such an optimal solution, you need the ability to logically and quantitatively grasp various issues and the path to solving them, and I believe that this is what "economic sense" is. Our faculty has a strong faculty and educational programs to hone such sense.
In addition, our faculty does not neglect the practical aspects of learning, i.e., acquiring skills. We also place emphasis on supporting students to obtain national qualifications that are useful in various industries, such as tax accountant and FP (financial planner), and on supporting students who wish to study abroad. Furthermore, we have a dedicated classroom for teaching GIS (geographic information systems), which is very rare in economics-related faculties.
In this way, four years of study at our faculty will be of great help in acquiring the sense and skills necessary to succeed in a variety of fields in society.

FAQ About studying at the Faculty of College of Economics
-
What kind of study is economics?
Our lives consist of many economic activities, such as shopping and part-time work. Economics is an academic field that analyzes the "market" where such economic activities take place, and studies the roles of "households," "businesses," and "governments." In order to create a rich society in which everyone can live fairly and happily, we measure economic phenomena using people's happiness as a yardstick and explore what kind of system is desirable for each individual. In this faculty, we study economics from the four pillars of "theory," "policy," "history," and "region."
-
What is the benefit of studying economics?
By studying economics, you will be able to understand our "lifestyle" and "living" more logically and from various perspectives, backed by academic knowledge. For example, you will acquire the ability to think about questions such as "Why do prices of things go up and down, and how does that affect our lives?" and "Why does income increase and decrease?" in the context of the overall movement of society. You will also develop the ability to decide "what should I do" in response to various economic activities.

What is the difference between economics and business administration?
Economics broadly studies society as a whole, and teaches about the efficiency of resource allocation. Resources refer to all "limited" things, including not only natural resources but also people and time. The subject of economics is to consider the system of society as a whole that ensures that these resources are distributed efficiently among individuals, companies, etc. Meanwhile, business administration studies the efficiency of companies, government organizations, etc. The subject of business administration is to consider how to operate and manage organizations, and how to improve performance and productivity.

What is the difference between Department of Economics and Department of Public and Regional Economics?
Department of Economics fosters "the ability to analyze independently" and "flexible thinking and action" based on the traditional system of theory, policy, and history. We offer specialized subjects in many fields, with course enrollment guidelines set out as "Theory and Quantitative Course," "Applied Economics Course," and "History and Philosophy Course" to systematically acquire a wide range of liberal arts and specialized knowledge.
Meanwhile, Department of Public and Regional Economics fosters the "application" and "practical" skills of economics under the new framework of theory, policy, and region. In order to efficiently learn specialized knowledge, two courses, the "Public Course" and the "Regional Course", are set up, and courses common to all departments and courses are systematically arranged. In addition, many courses are available to be taken on a semester basis. -
What is the situation regarding going on to graduate school?
In today's world, where more advanced knowledge is required, the number of careers that favor graduate school is on the rise. Our university has established a Graduate Graduate School of Economics, which allows students to continue their undergraduate studies and further their expertise in economics. There are two majors: the "Department of Economics" which studies advanced and specialized theoretical and applied fields of economics, and the "Department of Public and Regional Economics" which studies government, regional and community management. We also have a system in place that allows students to complete their master's degree in a total of five years from the time of enrollment in the undergraduate program by taking graduate school subjects in their fourth year of undergraduate studies. Graduates maintain a high rate of employment and career paths in a variety of fields, including academia, the business world, and the civil service.
Department of Economics
We provide research and education that comprehensively grasps the various factors of recent economic informatization, globalization, resource and environmental issues, and looks to the future for economic growth and development. In Department of Economics students are trained in the ability to research economics, and especially in the upper division, they are trained in the ability to become independent as researchers.
Department of Public and Regional Economics
With the aim of solving problems that cannot be fully addressed by the traditional market and government frameworks, we pursue the design and management of economic systems suited to the times. We also aim to train specialists in policy planning, regional development fields, non-profit organization management, etc.
Educational and research objectives
The Faculty of College of Economics aims to develop students' ability to proactively drive the market economy while applying cutting-edge economics to the real world. At the same time, our educational policy is to cultivate high academic insight that will enable students to propose better systems and policies to realize a fair economic society, and the ability to take action with a strong will to contribute to society.
