Master's Program in Psychology

  • Completion Requirements

    Students must be enrolled for at least two years, earning a total of 40 credits including 8 credits in foundation subjects, 8 credits in specialized subjects (lectures and seminars), and 8 credits in research guidance I-IV. They must also submit a master's degree application thesis or the results of research on a specific topic, and pass the review and final examination. However, only students who have passed the adult entrance examination may submit the results of research on a specific topic. Furthermore, of the 40 credits, up to 10 credits of courses from other departments and graduate schools in the Graduate Graduate School of Education, Psychology and Human Studies with the permission of the research supervisor and the instructor in charge of the course may be counted toward the graduation requirements. Courses offered in the Clinical Psychology course may not be taken. As for the period of enrollment, those who have achieved outstanding research results will be required to be enrolled for at least one year.

Master's Program in Clinical Psychology

  • Completion Requirements

    Students must be enrolled for at least two years, earning a total of at least 40 credits, including 16 credits in 10 compulsory subjects, at least two credits in each of electives A-E, and eight credits in research guidance I-IV. They must also submit a master's degree application thesis or the results of research on a specific topic, and pass the review and final examination. However, only students who have enrolled through the adult entrance examination may submit the results of research on a specific topic, but please note that those who complete the program in a way other than by passing the master's thesis will not be eligible to take the clinical psychologist exam. Also, even if students earn credits in subjects from other majors, this does not count towards the completion requirements. Students cannot take subjects offered in the psychology course. As for the period of enrollment, students who have achieved outstanding research results will be required to be enrolled for at least one year.
    In addition, those who wish to qualify to take the exam to become a certified psychologist must complete the subjects specified by ministerial ordinances of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, as well as Practical Psychology Seminar I and II offered by this university.

    As a general rule, our university will interpret clinical psychologist subjects as subjects specified in the ministerial ordinance above.

    *Please note that if this is interpreted as a subject for certified psychologists, it will not be recognized as a Group E subject for clinical psychologists.

  • Obtaining a clinical psychologist license

    Clinical psychologists are certified by the Japan Clinical Psychologist Certification Association. In principle, you can only be eligible to take the exam after completing a doctoral course at a graduate school and having at least one year (in the case of a second-class designated graduate school, etc.) or two years (in the case of a former second-class designated graduate school, etc.) of clinical psychology experience.
    Our graduate school clinical Department of Psychology course has an appropriate educational curriculum that includes clinical psychology training and a fee-based graduate school-affiliated psychological counseling room, and is accredited as a Type 1 designated graduate school by the Japan Clinical Psychologist Certification Board, a public interest incorporated foundation. Therefore, by completing the master's course, you can become eligible to take the exam.

Doctoral Program

Students must designate a research supervisor, choose a research topic under his/her supervision, complete 12 credits in the prescribed research guidance courses V to X, submit a doctoral thesis and pass its review and the final examination, and pass certification in one foreign language.
In addition, students must take the courses designated by their research supervisor and submit a research progress report at the end of each academic year.
In addition to the above, students enrolled in or after the 2018 academic year must complete a total of 16 credits in Special Seminar on Psychology Research Methods I and II (2 credits each).
