Educational and research objectives

The program aims to develop talented individuals who have a historical, ideological and theoretical understanding of the issues facing the international community and Japanese diplomacy, who have a high level of sensitivity to different cultures and value systems, and who can proactively think about and act to resolve international issues.

Diploma Policy (Policy for Graduation Certification and Degree Awarding)

Possess specialized knowledge in the field of international politics necessary to play an active role in the international community (particularly specialized knowledge in theoretical fields (international relations theory, political theory, international law, etc.), history and philosophy (diplomatic history, political philosophy, etc.), and area studies) as well as strong language proficiency.

■Thinking ability, judgment ability, expressive ability
"Politics, Diplomacy and Security Course"
Students have the ability to think logically and accurately from the standpoint of international politics about problems arising in the international community (especially problems between nations, regional problems, etc.) from the perspective of their nation or region, to analyze these problems, and to take action to resolve them.

"Global Governance Course"
Possess the ability to think logically and accurately from the standpoint of international politics about problems arising in the international community (especially global problems and global issues), and to take action to resolve them.

■ Motivation, interest, and attitude
Possess the motivation, interest, and attitude to cooperate and collaborate with people around the world as members of the international community.

Curriculum Policy (Policy for creating and implementing educational courses)

Department of International Politics has established an educational curriculum to enable students to acquire the following academic abilities by the time they graduate. In particular, from the second year, two courses are established: the Politics, Diplomacy and Security Course and the Global Governance Course, and a consistent educational program is provided according to a model course plan appropriate for each course.

■ "Politics, Diplomacy and Security Studies Course"
In order to acquire the specialized knowledge in the field of international politics necessary to play an active role in the international community, we offer subjects related to theory (international relations theory, political theory, international law, etc.), history and philosophy (diplomatic history, political philosophy, etc.), and area studies, which are arranged as department-specialized subjects (basic subjects (Group A) and advanced subjects (Group B)).

The course offers specialized subjects (basic subjects (Group A) and advanced subjects (Group B)) and specialized seminars) to equip students with the ability to correctly understand, logically consider, and accurately analyze various issues arising in the international community (especially issues between nations, regional issues, etc.) from the perspective of national or regional issues, and to take action to resolve them.

In order to equip students with the ability (including high language skills) to cooperate and collaborate with people around the world as members of the international community, foreign language subjects (Group A (English), Group B (foreign language other than English), Group C (foreign language other than English or English)) are systematically arranged and small-group participation seminars are offered throughout the four years of study (introductory seminars in the first year, pre-seminars in the second year, and specialized seminars in the third and fourth years).
