Academic Studies
A student's main duty is their studies. Please make a solid course plan, participate actively in classes, and take an active role in learning so that you can earn credits.
Please be aware that when you apply for a visa extension at the Immigration Bureau while enrolled, your attendance rate and grades will also be subject to review. If you have poor grades, insufficient credits, or unpaid tuition fees, your application for a visa extension may not be approved and you may have to return to your home country, so please be careful.
This article explains the academic system mainly for undergraduate students. Please make sure to read the various guides distributed by each faculty, department, and graduate school carefully before applying to your studies.
Course registration
About course registration
Course registration is an important procedure for students to register the courses they wish to take at the university during the designated period at the beginning of each semester. Please read the "Class Handbook (Registration Guide)," "Lecture Contents," and "Class Schedule" carefully and follow the registration procedures carefully to avoid any registration omissions or mistakes. The course registration period and schedule for the second semester can be found on the "Student Portal.
International students are required to follow the same registration procedures as regular students, but the procedures for foreign language courses are different from those for regular students, so please check the "Class Handbook (Registration Guide)" carefully.
You are required to register for classes correctly. You will not be able to take classes for which you have not registered, and you will not be able to earn credits for those classes. Be sure to print out the "Course Registration List" from the Student Portal during the course registration period to confirm that your course registration has been completed correctly.
It is your responsibility to confirm your course registration and course registration results. About learning (courses, classes, exams, grades, etc.)
Support and consultation for writing reports and papers (Academic Writing Center)
At the Academic Writing Center, tutors (graduate students) who have undergone specialized training will provide individual support and consultation for each student regarding the writing of their thesis or report. This can be done for both Japanese and English texts. In addition, this service is available to all students of the university, including international students.

Academic support consultation (Support Center for Students with Disabilities)
The Disability Student Support Center is a point of contact for students who require support in their studies due to disabilities, illness, or injury. We aim to provide comprehensive support to students who require support, from before enrollment, through their time at university, and on to the transition to employment and participation in society, in cooperation with relevant departments, organizations, and institutions, so that students who require support can have the same educational and research opportunities as students without disabilities.
If you are an international student who would like to use the Disability Student Support Center, please first contact the International Center.
Regarding leave of absence, reinstatement, and withdrawal
If you wish to apply for a leave of absence or withdrawal for unavoidable reasons, please apply to Academic Affairs Department Academic Affairs Division, Academic Affairs Division of the Professional Graduate School (Aoyama Campus) or Academic Affairs Division (Sagamihara Campus). You must receive the university's designated application form at the counter and be sure to receive an explanation of the procedures. The International Center will explain the necessary residence procedures for international students taking a leave of absence, reinstating, or withdrawing from the university, so please be sure to inform the International Center in advance that you are considering taking a leave of absence, reinstating, or withdrawing from the university.
If an international student takes a leave of absence, they will not be able to continue residing in Japan with their "Student" status.
