Check your course registration and credit transfer when studying abroad

Before application

Check the curriculum

Please understand the curriculum of your faculty/department at this university and check whether there are any courses, such as specialized courses, seminars, or graduation thesis, that will affect the year you plan to study abroad. Students enrolled in teacher training courses should be especially careful, as there is a high possibility that their teaching practice will be affected depending on the year they study abroad.
It is also important to consider the subjects (academic subjects, second foreign language subjects, etc.) that can be taken at the study abroad destination, and in light of your current course status, consider whether it is possible to graduate in four years. If you have any questions, please check with Academic Affairs Division / Academic Affairs Division or Teacher Certification Division.

Credit Accreditation

Number of accredited credits
The maximum number of credits that can be earned in a given year must be approved. However, if you are studying abroad for multiple years, you can approve up to 60 credits. (The 60 credits include credits earned outside of this university, such as credits already earned at the time of enrollment.)

Required Documents
① "Application and Certification of Credits for International Students" (Certification Proposal)
② Official English transcript from your study abroad institution
③ Syllabus of the study abroad institution
④ Timetable and academic calendar
⑤ Textbooks, notes, reports, etc.

● Students who have completed their study abroad program will have the credits they earned at the host university recognised as credits at our university after going through the required application procedures.
● Submit the necessary documents to Academic Affairs Division (Aoyama) / Academic Affairs Division (Sagamihara) by the specified deadline, have an interview with a professor from your faculty or graduate school, and be approved by the faculty council before your credits are officially recognized.
● The proposal for credit recognition will be made based on the lecture content and number of class hours of the subjects acquired at the study abroad host institution. Subjects eligible for recognition are limited to those that can be taken in the curriculum of the faculty/department to which the student belongs. When making a proposal for recognition, be sure to refer to the course syllabus and lecture content.
● The approved credits will be included in the maximum credits earned in the year in which the procedure is carried out.
● Accredited credits cannot be used as credits toward obtaining a teaching license or other qualifications.

Course registration

● Some second semester courses can only be taken in the first semester. Please refer to the "Class Timetable (PDF version)" in advance to see which courses are eligible.
● After returning to Japan, you will not be able to take more than the maximum credit limit for that academic year.
● Even if a course is eligible for continuing study, if there is a conflict with other courses on the timetable, or if the same course (with the same content) is not offered for some reason, you will not be able to take it.
